South Knox Outpowers North Daviess in High-Scoring Affair, Secures 10th Win of the Season

The North Daviess Cougar baseball team fell short in a thrilling matchup against South Knox on Tuesday, losing 14-10 at Wayne Davis Field. Despite the ideal weather conditions, South Knox managed to capitalize on mistakes and secure their 10th win of the season.

The game got off to a rocky start for the Cougars, with the first five Spartans reaching base against starter Markus Graber, resulting in four runs. Graber eventually settled down, getting the final two batters he faced to end the inning at 4-0. However, Graber's efforts on the mound were soon matched by his performance at the plate, as he hit a 2-out, 2-run home run that also drove in Zane Sample, narrowing the deficit to 4-2.

The Cougars continued to battle back, taking the lead in the bottom of the second as Jason Jones and courtesy runner Bentley McNabb scored, reclaiming the lead at 5-4. This back-and-forth trend persisted throughout the game, with ND picking up their sixth run in the bottom of the third as Campbell Wittmer reached and scored on a long fly ball to center.

After a pair of walks to start the fourth inning, ND brought in Koen Stoll to replace Graber. However, four hits later, including back-to-back doubles, led to five more Spartan runs and a 9-6 lead. The Cougars refused to give up, grabbing a run back as Hayden Sample walked and scored on Zane Sample's second double of the game, making it 9-7.

The fifth inning proved to be a decisive one for South Knox, as Stoll was hurt by errors, a wild pitch, and a misplayed ball, leading to four more runs and a 13-7 lead. Although the Cougars managed to score a few more runs, it was too little, too late, as South Knox held on for the 14-10 victory.
