Walden Park Paving Project Set to Commence Before Summer's End, Bringing Significant Improvements to the Community

A long-awaited infrastructure development is finally on the horizon for the residents of Wright Township, as the Walden Park paving project is slated to begin before the end of summer. The Wright Township supervisors recently awarded a contract worth $849,290 to HRI, Inc. for the paving of Walden Drive, pending approval from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT). The project encompasses the reconstruction of the entrance to Walden Park, aiming to enhance the aesthetic appeal and functionality of the area.

The scope of the project includes the installation of new lighting, concrete curbing, and low-maintenance hardscaping at the entrance island, while preserving some of the existing trees. Additionally, the plans call for the creation of two turning lanes at the exit, which is expected to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion. The project's design and planning were outlined earlier this year by Dominic Yanuzzi of Benesch engineers, providing the community with a clear understanding of the work to be undertaken.

The Walden Park paving project has received significant financial support from state authorities, with a $700,000 grant from the Department of Community and Economic Development and a $117,000 grant from PennDOT. These funds will be instrumental in covering the costs associated with the project, ensuring that the community benefits from the infrastructure upgrades without shouldering an undue financial burden.

In preparation for the upcoming project, the township has initiated a pipe replacement project, which is expected to be completed within one to two weeks. This proactive approach will help minimize potential disruptions during the main project and ensure that the infrastructure is in optimal condition to support the new paving and reconstruction work.

Furthermore, the supervisors have awarded a separate contract to Eddie's Landscaping, LLC, valued at $102,090, for work on four retention basins located at Brook Hollow, Pheasant Run, Summit Meadows, and Stone Hedge. This project, mandated by the state as part of the township's MS4 permit, will be funded through grant money, alleviating the financial impact on the community. The retention basins play a critical role in managing stormwater runoff and preventing environmental pollution, making this initiative an essential component of the township's environmental stewardship efforts.

The community is also looking forward to the 2026 Mountain Top National Night Out, scheduled to take place on August 4, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the multi-purpose field behind the Wright Township municipal building. This event provides an opportunity for residents to engage with first responders and community partners, fostering a sense of unity and cooperation. The evening's festivities will include food trucks, games, prizes, pony rides, and demonstrations, offering something for everyone to enjoy.
