Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Robert 'Bob' Bruce Bowling: A Devoted Husband, Father, Coach, and Veteran

Robert 'Bob' Bruce Bowling, a pillar of the Bradenton, Florida community, passed away on July 4, 2026, at the age of 78, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service, and love that touched countless lives. Born on May 14, 1948, in Radford, Virginia, to Mack and Ruth Bowling, Bob was raised with the values of hard work, humility, and devotion, which he carried with him throughout his life.

As a faithful member of West Bradenton Baptist Church, Bob's life was anchored in his Baptist faith, and he lived in a way that reflected the grace and kindness he believed in. His family was the center of his world, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Bob is survived by his wife, Elaine; his sons and daughters-in-law, Rob (Mandy), Casey (Brenda), and Matthew (Kelly); and his grandchildren, AnnaBelle, Lily, Brooklyn, Braden, Easton, and Charlotte.

Bob's educational journey took him to Manatee High School, where he graduated in 1966, and later to Fort Scott Community College and Baker University, where he earned his degree in 1973. His athletic career was marked by his passion for football and baseball, which he coached at several high schools in Florida and Texas, including Miami Edison High School, Groveton High School, and Braden River High School. As a coach, Bob was more than just a mentor; he was a teacher, an encourager, and a role model who taught young athletes the importance of teamwork, character, and giving one's best effort.

Bob's dedication to athletics and education was recognized through numerous awards and honors, including his induction into the Braden River High School Hall of Fame in 2014 and the Manatee High School Hall of Honor in 2026. These accolades reflect not only his success as a coach but also the respect and admiration he earned through a lifetime of faithful leadership and service. As a veteran of the U.S. Army, Bob served his country with distinction, and his military service was a testament to his commitment to duty and country.

Throughout his life, Bob was driven by a sense of purpose and a desire to make a positive impact on the lives of those around him. He was a devoted husband, father, grandaddy, brother, coach, veteran, and friend, and his legacy will be remembered for generations to come. As the Bible verse 2 Timothy 4:7 says, 'I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.' Bob lived this verse with quiet strength and steadfast devotion, meeting life's challenges with courage and warmth.

A celebration of Bob's life will be held on Friday, July 24th at West Bradenton Baptist Church, with visitation at 10am and the service beginning at 11am. A Military Honors burial will follow at 3pm at Sarasota National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the West Bradenton Baptist Church. As we remember Bob's life and legacy, we take comfort in the knowledge that he is now made whole at home in the presence of the Lord he served so faithfully.

Bob's love for University of Texas athletics, golf, and good conversation will be deeply missed by his friends and family. However, his memory will remain a blessing to all who were privileged to know him. As we reflect on his life, we are reminded of the importance of living with purpose, passion, and dedication to our values and faith. Bob's legacy serves as a testament to the impact one person can have on the lives of others, and his memory will continue to inspire and motivate us to live our lives with integrity, kindness, and compassion.
