This innovative space, designed in collaboration with Kopitiam, part of FairPrice Group, is aimed at recreating a familiar community setting that fosters social interaction and comfort for patients during their stay.

The concept behind this novel initiative is rooted in the understanding that elderly patients, particularly those with dementia, often face significant challenges in navigating unfamiliar hospital environments. By simulating a familiar setting like a Kopitiam, the hospital aims to reduce disorientation and encourage patients to engage in meals and social activities. According to Ms Yvonne Yap, Deputy Director of Nursing at KTPH and YCH, this innovative approach enables patients to spend quality time with their loved ones in a more comfortable and meaningful way.

The introduction of this patient lounge marks a significant milestone in KTPH's ongoing efforts to enhance patient care and experience. The hospital has a history of incorporating simulated environments to ease disorientation among patients with dementia, having previously installed decals resembling bus shelters in its dementia ward and a coffee shop setting in the geriatric outpatient clinic. This latest initiative is expected to be followed by similar projects in the next two years, further solidifying the hospital's commitment to patient-centered care.

The collaboration between KTPH and Kopitiam is a prime example of how public and private entities can come together to drive meaningful change in the healthcare sector.
