Nam Jong-seop to Helm Gyeonggi Provincial Council as First-Half Speaker: A New Era for Gyeonggi Province

Nam Jong-seop, a seasoned four-term lawmaker representing Yongin 3, has emerged as the sole candidate for the speaker position of the 12th Gyeonggi Provincial Council. Following the closure of candidate registration by the Democratic Party of Korea, Nam is poised to lead the council for the first half of its term, leveraging his extensive experience and expertise to drive progress in Gyeonggi Province.

The Democratic Party's election management committee at the Gyeonggi Provincial Council closed candidate registration on Monday, marking the beginning of a new era for the province. With the Democratic Party holding an absolute majority in the council, Nam's appointment as speaker is expected to usher in a period of stability and growth. The campaign period, which commenced upon registration, will run through the 21st, allowing candidates to engage with constituents and outline their visions for the province. The ballot number drawing has assigned Choi Man-sik the number 1 spot and Ahn Kwang-ryul the number 2 spot for the floor leader position, while Lee Sun-gu, Ko Eun-jeong, Kim Mi-sook, and Kim Jong-bae have been assigned numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4, respectively, for the vice speaker positions.

The Democratic Party floor leader will be confirmed in an election on the 22nd, with the speaker and vice speaker candidates who pass the vote scheduled to be confirmed by a vote of all members at the 392nd extraordinary session of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council on July 7.
