Checkley continued their impressive start to the season in the NSSCL Premier A, with skipper James Kettleborough leading from the front in a dominant display against Longton. The victory marked Checkley's third win in four matches, solidifying their position at the top of the early standings.
Kettleborough's century was the highlight of the match, as he smashed 145 runs, including 19 fours and one six, to power Checkley to a total of 293-7 from 43 overs. Opener James Abbotts provided valuable support with 66, including seven boundaries and three maximums, while Elliot Boardwell chipped in with 43. Longton's Lee Ridgway was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 4-31, but his efforts were ultimately in vain.
The rain-interrupted match saw Longton set a revised target of 229 from 29 overs, but they were bundled out for a mere 71. Experienced seamer Richard Cooper was the chief destroyer, taking 5-14, while EJ Laverty claimed 3-12. Alex Thorley, Tom Hope, and Andy Coxon offered some resistance, but it was too little, too late, as Checkley sealed a comprehensive victory.
Elsewhere in the league, newly-promoted Whitmore suffered their fourth consecutive defeat, slipping to the bottom of the standings. Meakins were the beneficiaries of Whitmore's woes, as they chalked up a four-wicket win. Ryan Roberts top-scored for Whitmore with 39, while Muhammad Imran, Matt McAll, and Hasnain Mazhar all made starts. However, Meakins' seasoned batter Pete Wilshaw stole the show, blasting 70, including eight fours and one six, to guide his side to victory.
Eccleshall, promoted back to the top flight for the 2026 season, are hot on Checkley's heels in second place. They secured their third win of the summer with a convincing victory over Moddershall. Aizaz Ahmed, Callum Hawkins, and Arjun Annamalai were the top scorers for Modd, but their total of 103 was never going to be enough. Eccleshall eased to a seven-wicket triumph, with Chris Plant and Murvin Abinash seeing them home.
Stone SP made it back-to-back wins with a home success against Porthill Park. The hosts amassed 287-7 from their 45 overs, with half-centuries from George Hawbrook and Joey Sharp. The win marked a significant turnaround for Stone SP, who are now firmly in the mix in the early stages of the season.
The NSSCL Premier A is shaping up to be a thrilling contest, with several teams vying for top honors. Checkley's dominance will be tested in the coming weeks, but for now, they remain the team to beat. With Kettleborough in such imperious form, they will be confident of continuing their winning streak.
