This year, Kokrajhar has already reported nine deaths, while Barpeta and Lakhimpur have each recorded five. The months of May and June are particularly deadly, with 78 deaths in June and 75 in May over the last decade.

To combat this growing threat, the ASDMA has launched awareness campaigns to protect vulnerable populations, particularly farmers, who are often the most affected by lightning strikes. The authority is also promoting the use of the SmartAxom app, a mobile application designed to provide early warnings and alerts to the public during extreme weather events. The app uses advanced technology to track lightning strikes and provide real-time updates, enabling people to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
