Minister Dr. Timilsina Warns of Misinformation on Social Media, Calls for Verification

Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Dr. Bikram Timilsina, has issued a stern warning regarding the proliferation of misinformation on social media platforms. Speaking to locals at Chhahare bazaar of Likhu rural municipality-6 in Nuwakot district, Minister Dr. Timilsina emphasized the importance of verifying information before dissemination.

The Minister's remarks come amidst the circulation of baseless and misleading information on social media, including claims about the distribution of new mobile phones to ministers. Dr. Timilsina categorically denied these rumors, terming them as fake and expressing his belief that they were spread with ill intentions to create distrust in the government.

The issue of misinformation on social media is not new and has been a persistent challenge for governments and authorities worldwide. The ease with which information can be shared on social media platforms has created an environment where false information can spread rapidly, often with devastating consequences. In this context, Minister Dr. Timilsina's call for verification and fact-checking is a timely reminder of the need for responsible social media usage.

The Minister also reminded the public of Prime Minister Balendra Shah's policy of zero tolerance to corruption, assuring that the government would not misuse state resources generated from citizen's tax. He urged citizens to alert the government if they suspect any misuse of tax revenue, underscoring the importance of accountability and transparency in governance.

In addition to addressing the issue of misinformation, Minister Dr. Timilsina also highlighted the government's commitment to delivering results and ensuring development in the country. He noted that the government is focused on performance and results, rather than mere rhetoric, and is working to complete tasks that would normally take 20 years in just five years.

The Minister's visit to Nuwakot district is part of the government's efforts to engage with local communities and understand their needs and aspirations. Dr. Timilsina acknowledged the local's expectations and development needs, pledging necessary interventions to address them.
