NSW Government Injects $2.59M into Muswellbrook to Combat Homelessness

The New South Wales (NSW) government has taken a significant step towards addressing homelessness in the region by investing $2.59 million in Muswellbrook. This investment is part of the $100 million Homelessness Innovation Fund (HIF), a program aimed at supporting innovative and cost-effective solutions to homelessness. Muswellbrook is one of 12 towns to receive funding through this initiative, which will be used to deliver more than 100 new beds for individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

The NSW Labor government's investment in Muswellbrook will see the development of 10 self-contained transitional housing units for single people, complete with onsite support to help residents transition to long-term housing. This project will be led by Home in Place, one of Australia's largest non-government social housing providers, which has an office in Muswellbrook. The organization has a proven track record of delivering effective housing solutions, and this investment will enable them to expand their services in the region.

The HIF has already demonstrated its effectiveness in addressing homelessness, with over 800 beds delivered to date through almost $45 million in grants. This initiative is part of the NSW Government's broader strategy to end homelessness, which includes a record-breaking $6.6 billion investment in housing and homelessness. The NSW Homelessness Strategy 2025-2035 sets out a comprehensive plan to make homelessness rare, brief, and non-recurring, with a focus on delivering practical, community-led solutions.

Minister for Housing and Homelessness Rose Jackson emphasized the importance of this investment, stating that the government is working to turn around the previous lack of support for homelessness services and public housing. She noted that the investment backs organizations and frontline workers who are doing the hard work every day to support people in crisis and help them rebuild their lives. By investing in practical, community-led ideas, the government aims to deliver real results and help people find stability sooner.
