Pawan Kalyan Launches Crusade Against Godavari River Pollution

Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has sounded the alarm on the escalating pollution crisis in the Godavari River, ordering a comprehensive audit of pollutants entering the water body. The move comes amidst growing concerns over the impact of untreated sewage and industrial effluents on the river's ecosystem and the health of local communities.

The Deputy Chief Minister's audit directive is aimed at identifying the sources of pollution and developing effective strategies to mitigate them. He stressed the need for a scientifically sound approach to treat sewage and industrial effluents, emphasizing that the government is committed to organizing the upcoming Godavari Pushkarams, a major Hindu festival, under the theme of a pollution-free Godavari.

A key area of concern is the direct discharge of untreated sewage into the Godavari River, which is estimated to be around 55 million liters per day. Pawan Kalyan underscored the importance of treating this sewage using modern technology and ensuring that only completely treated water is discharged into the river. He also inquired about the disposal methods employed for waste materials and the construction of new treatment plants.

The Andhra Pradesh government has secured administrative approval for Rs 95 crore out of the allocated Rs 416 crore under the National River Conservation Plan. These funds are expected to be utilized for the construction of modern treatment plants and other initiatives aimed at reducing pollution in the Godavari River.
