PM Tarique Rahman Lays Foundation Stone for National Institute of Disaster Management in Gazipur

Today, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman laid the foundation stone for the National Institute of Disaster Management Research and Training in Gazipur, marking a significant step towards enhancing Bangladesh's disaster management capabilities. The ceremony, which took place at Sataish Chowrasta in the Dhorpara area, was attended by prominent officials, including Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu, State Minister M Iqbal Hossain, and Secretary Saidur Rahman Khan.

The institute, to be built on approximately eight acres of land, will serve as a hub for training and research on various climate-related disasters, ultimately contributing to the development of skilled manpower for disaster risk reduction. The facility will comprise an administrative building and residential facilities for trainees, underscoring the government's commitment to creating a comprehensive disaster management framework.

Minister Dulu emphasized the institute's potential to become a leading disaster research and training center in South Asia and beyond, highlighting its role in strengthening disaster management capacity and reducing people's vulnerability to disasters. The prime minister's participation in the ceremony, including the release of fish fry into a pond and the planting of a tree sapling, symbolized the government's dedication to environmental conservation and sustainable development.

Bangladesh is prone to a wide range of natural disasters, including cyclones, floods, and droughts, which have devastating impacts on the country's economy, infrastructure, and human lives. The establishment of the National Institute of Disaster Management Research and Training is a crucial step towards mitigating these effects and promoting a culture of disaster risk reduction and management.
