Janis Calderwood, a devoted visitor to the island, left an indelible mark on the community through her generous donations to the Vinalhaven Library, the Vinalhaven Historical Society, and the Union Church on Vinalhaven.

Calderwood's bequests, totaling $1,071,420, are a testament to her deep affection for the island and its people. The Vinalhaven Library and the Vinalhaven Historical Society each received $500,000, while the Union Church on Vinalhaven was gifted $71,420. Janis Calderwood, an accomplished electrical engineer, spent her career working at General Electric.
