World Music Festival Descends Upon Sassari: A Vibrant Celebration of Global Sounds

The city of Sassari is gearing up for a spectacular musical extravaganza as the World Music Festival makes its return, proudly organized by the Cooperativa Teatro e/o Musica. From July 28 to August 6, the vibrant piazza Monica Moretti will transform into a melting pot of global sounds, hosting three extraordinary concerts, each starting at 21:30.

The festival's inaugural performance on July 28 features ¡Gracia!, a captivating show by Genovese guitarist and composer Luca Falomi. Joined by Anaïs Drago on violin and Fausto Beccalossi on accordion, Falomi crafts an original sound that is both rooted and contemporary, weaving a narrative with each note. This unique blend promises to transport the audience on a sonic journey, bridging tradition and innovation.

Saturday, August 1, welcomes the multietnic group Yampapaya to the stage. Founded by American singer-songwriter David James Hoffman, the band draws inspiration from Congolese music, skillfully merging rhythms and melodies from around the world. Alongside Hoffman on vocals and guitar, the ensemble includes Peace Diouf on guitar, Frank Ranieri on bass, and Alex Taborri and Francesca Ciocca on percussion, ensuring a performance that is as dynamic as it is diverse.

The festival culminates on August 6 with a tribute to the legendary Domenico Modugno by the incomparable Anna Maria Castelli. In her show, “Cosa sono le nuvole – Omaggio a Domenico Modugno,” Castelli revisits her acclaimed project Singing Modugno, this time infusing it with refined and essential elements of jazz, French song, and Argentine tango. Accompanied by Adriàn Fioramonti on guitar, Thomas Sinigaglia on accordion, and Stefano Rapicavoli on drums, Castelli promises an evening that is both a homage and a reinvention, celebrating the timeless appeal of Modugno's work.
